I HATE BIOLOGY SEMINARS!

I just wanted to make myself perfectly clear in my title...

This hour of my life every wednesday this semester has and will continue to be a big fat waste of time! This is my attempt at keeping myself sane during this hour =)

Still excited about New York! I am getting more excited by the second! Ryan and I keep finding awesome places that we want to go visit!

In case you don't know what this place is you should definitely google it!

Ryan and I decided after we were inspired by many many thrifting blogs that we would use our awesome flight benefits to visit EVERY Buffalo Exchange in the US! Wish us luck!

Also...

This is actually EXACTLY what we are preparing for! some SERIOUS shopping!

Alright guys this post is a little lame, but I DO in fact have to write a paper about this lecture so I should pay a little bit of attention!

On a final note, I've been spending a lot of time on this awesome little blog: much love illy!! Go check her out and congratulate her on her 1st year bloganniversary!!

Not much to say today, and I actually should be writing a paper that is due tomorrow...but I can't help myself! X and I have the most fabulous jobs in the whole world. We get to fly anywhere we want--free. ANYWHERE! So... on a whim we decided we should go to New York this weekend and visit his best friend Andrew! NEW YORK!!?!?! Seriously? I always wanted to go there and now it's like no big thing! Ah-Only it IS big!! And I am so excited I can't even think straight.. I need ideas for cool things you would do if you got to spend the weekend in NY...

There are so many cool things--let me know so I can plan my weekend wisely!

On another note--I lost 4 lbs! YES! small and simple victories in life =). I'm also running a half marathon with my sister Elise in the summer! I guess I better get my butt in gear! I was supposed to go run tonight, but I forgot that I get to get my hair done by my bestie!! YAY for hair days! I hope everyone's weekend was great, and that your week is going as fabulously as mine is right now!

This is us in my more fabulous days...before I was even engaged! I'll post a new pic when my hair is done =)

Also, poor little Zada bug is at the vet right now getting her insides all cut up =(. Sad day, I wont see the little weasle until tomorrow!!

Happy Valentine's DAYYY!!

As it turns out I'm about as good at blogging as I am at journaling--really good for a couple days and then... Anyway--I will be better! Promise! Enjoy this VERY long post =)

Soo... Valentine's day isn't a really big deal in our little world. We love each other everyday, and we are sweet to each other...most days =). We've started operation..look good for Australia!! I've been cooking yummy meals almost every night since my last post...That means I have a LOT of pictures.. so.. bare with me =)

This was dinner um...the first night.. monday? Grilled chicken salad =) Xavier forced me to eat nasty grape tomatoes and then covered up the evidence in my wonderful picture--turd.

Usually I'm a boring breakfast eater, but this was my breakfast the next morning =)

Tuesday Night: Chicken Spaghetti--thrown together because I hadnt bought groceries yet =P

Wednesday Night: Taco Salad.. Yumm

Thursday Night: Chicken and Rice with Gravy

Friday Night we had grilled cheese sandwiches and soup and Saturday was our "Special" dinner (it's a good thing it's the weekend because calories don't count on the weekend right??):

This is Xavier cooking his GIANT T-bone steak =)

He thought I would try to hide this little fact.. but here it is: special for you guys!! I was NOT about to make dinner after a really crazy saturday, so... I bought the yummiest (and healthiest) mac and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy from marketstreet!

So X totally called me out.. I looked at our dinner and said "aww dang it we don't have any vegetables"... Xavier promptly said "Are you just sad because it doesn't look good for your picture?" haha. dang.. so we added some parsley to the mac and cheese.. haha =)

I know those steaks were out of control huge.. don't worry.. we had about 8 steaks worth of left overs =)

Ok so I know this post is RIDICULOUSLY long... but I have to include these last couple of pictures.. so I was on A Yellow House blog by Cierra... I really wish I could put a link..and I saw a link to this awesome website that taught me how to make a sweet heart cake for valentine's day. I am NOT good at anything cute really but I decided to give it a try anyway =) I would say it turned out pretty dang good =)

I know it might not look that cool but it was VERY involved and took me a long time! It tasted great though =)

Thanks for taking the time to read my VERY lengthy blog!! I won't wait so long in between blogs next time =) Really! Have a great weekend!

RECIPES!!

Today's post will serve a number of purposes... I had an experience at the airport this morning that has prompted me to list various travel tips as they occur to me. This morning our flight to memphis cancelled due to the horrible wheather in memphis. This sucks-for everyone involoved. I have to listen to angry people yell at me for things I can't help and sweet, sweet, people get screwed out of a honeymoon. The particular couple this morning who missed their flight to Florida was in danger of missing their connection to the Cruise ship they were going on for their honeymoon. When I mentioned how bad I felt for them to a co-worker,he told me that they should have planned their flight a day earlier. I was kind of frustrated that he was being so insensitive... but unfortunately the truth is there..

Alexis's awesome travel tip number 1: If you have something as incredibly important as a honeymoon cruise to get to.. make your travel arrangements to leave at LEAST a day ahead.

Unfortunately for the couple, there were no other flights our of lubbock, except to Dallas... which of course means they would just be stuck in Dallas for a few days with all the post-super bowl business. I know it sounds drastic but if it is that important that you get somewhere, take another day off, pay the extra for the hotel to be there a day early. I promise it's worth it.

Alexis's awesome travel tip number 2: If you have a flight leaving at 5:50, be there at at LEAST 5:20.

Seriously people.. is your time that important that you would risk missing your flight because you got there too late? If the flight is scheduled to leave at 5:50 that means it LEAVES at 5:50... meaning the doors close at 5:40, bags have to be checked by 5:20 and you have to be through security by 5:35. Come on people try some common sense.. I know the second you step inside the airport doors you lose your mind, but please... get there in time-go to the correct counter (yes people come up to me with an American Eagle confirmation code and cant understand why I can't help them)- and you will get wherever you're going without problems. Easy =).

Now for the important stuff--This is me before the wedding...

and.... this is me now..

I know! it's terrible... and there are no excuses..except maybe that I started birth control and started working 2 jobs and taking 19 credit hours? no you're right no excuses... what this means for you is that I NEED healthy recipes... Xavier and I have a few but really only like a week and a half's worth of variety if I make dinner every night! Any recipes will help, breakfast, lunch, dinner... I have a contest thing going with a friend (not by choice-I was forced kicking and screaming into the contest) and I need all the help I can get!

Thanks in advance for the help, because I know you guys won't let me down!

SNOW!!!

I know... A little snow is not that exciting... but it sure made my week a little more eventful!!

First of all it snowed pretty bad Monday night/ Tuesday morning causing the flight to be cancelled in the morning--YAY no work for me!! Unfortunately, this caused my already winter-hating doggie to be even more frozen.* This made** her extra anxious in the bathroom (where she lives while we are gone at school or work). I came home to find blood all over the door and floor... and her paws =(((. Apparently she was scratching at the door for so long that she rubbed a raw sore on her paw AND she filed her nails down to the quick! =( sad day...we have to give her a fake cast... which she
hated.. haha

So...Zada's all fixed up and everything and I'm trying to fix dinner... NO BREAD! what the heck?!?! But I definitely was NOT going outside in the snow, so guess what I did?!?! I baked a couple loaves myself! =) I know youre impressed! I'm impressed!

Don't worry though... the snow did not stop my SUPER cute rings from Love Stitched href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/lovestitched?ref=top_trail"> from coming in! I love them! (ps sorry about the link I don't know how to make that work quite yet)

Finally--Yesterday I was scheduled to work 4:15am-12:00 pm. Work was already crazy because I had to listen to everyone's sob stories about how they've been stuck in Lubbock for 2-3 days and experienced 4-5 flight cancellations already and they are ready to get home! I feel for them--that sucks.. unfortunately I can't control the weather.. The plane comes in and is ready to board all the passengers for their much anticipated departure-WRONG!! The plane comes in yes, but there is a minor delay because of a mechanical issue with the plane...and then a not so minor delay...and then a 2.5 hour delay (all the while I am having to comfort and console 50 passengers and try to rebook them on connection flights since they already missed theirs). Oh wait? After 2.5 hours NOW you decide to cancel the flight? FML! Needless to say those 50 passengers were not happy! Meanwhile passengers start showing up for their 4 oclock departure... All in all it was non-stop craziness from about 10 am-6 pm! (do I need to remind you that I was supposed to get off at 12??)

I guess what I'm trying to say is:

God, Next time you are thinking about letting it snow in Lubbock, please reconsider.

Thanks,

Alexis =)

*I told Xavier to look at my new post and tell me if he LOVED it or not... this is his edit =)
**I don't care enough about perfection to listen to ALL of his edits... this is his 2nd AND final edit =)

Reality

So--I've spent a lot of time on various blog building sites the past few weeks-and by a lot i mean A LOT! Thanks to the glorious half snow day today, I was able to be even more lazy. Reading other people's blogs and looking at all of the cute decorations and sites, I have a tendency to get a little down on myself. It all seemed a little overwhelming until I read the best advice of all:

Dont forget to ask yourself: Why did you start this blog?

Yeah, it would be nice to have the cutest header and all these cutesie little buttons and say the cleverest things.. but in reality I only started the blog so that my family could check in every once and a while and know what my little family is up to. I am NOT starting a blog to make money or fame, I'm not starting a blog to teach people all my secrets or make people laugh (although I hope you do occasionally). Once I realized this little fact I have been completely content in my blogging abilities. =) That being said I think I'll update my you on my perfect little family!

Xavier, Zada, and I live in a cute little house in Lubbock,TX with my two brothers (DJ and Braydon) and brother in law (Sanchao). Before you start to think about how weird it is for newlyweds to be living with their three brothers, let me explain: we own a little house with an efficiency apartment attached to the side; this is where we reside! =) It not awkward at all living with the boys, it's actually convenient most of the time (when they're not resetting the internet in the middle of a post so you lose everything). I'm graduating from Tech in august and Xavier is graduating in December. We have NO idea what the future holds, but we are hopeful =). Zada...well she likes to beg for our food, lick in daddy's nose (yes, it's disgusting), and sleep in the bed with us. She HATES the snow.. which is so funny because she picks her little paws up like a diva when we force her to go out in the snow to pee =). That's it for our happy little life right now!
